St. Blaise (Sv. Vlaha) and the Cathedral (back) from the City Wall
St. Blaise is the patron of the city, and this 18th century church built by venetian Marino Gropeli over the ruins of the former romanesque church is a prominent gathering point. The Cathedral lies at the same place of other former chusrches, from the 7th century. The actual one is from 1713, after the Great Earthquake, and was planned by Buffalini from Urbino. The City Wall encloses the Old City, sometime in the past the powerful independent republic of Ragusa, rival of Venice about mediterranean primacy.

Jarramas school ship, at Naval Museum in Karlskrona
This 3-masted steel ship, made in 1900 at Karlskrona shipyard, is one of the preserved at the splendid Naval Museum. You can get inside and realize the hard living of sea people. It is also an oppurtunity to feel the key position of Karlskrona, born and rationally planned around the naval facilities, mainly because of the absence of ice in winter and the will of Sweden to control its Danish territories.
