Roman theatre: proscenium and scene façade
Emerita Augusta was a main city in Roman Hispania. The great theatre, with seats for 6.000 people was built on 16-15 BC, very close to city foundation. It was paid by Marco Agripa, son-in-law of emperor Augusto. Altough the wood of the proscenium and the statues in the front of the scene are gone, the summer classical theatre festival relives the past splendor.
